Sibu Airport

Sibu is not left behind in the fast developing state of Sarawak. As the 2nd biggest town in Sarawak, Sibu receives a large number of tourist each year from local and foreign countries. Most tourist choose to travel by air and thats why this airport is constructed to replace the old one at Sungai Merah area. This airport has started its operations on the 1st of June 1994. It opens from 5:30 AM till 9:30 PM in the evening.

DIRECT FLIGHTS TO SIBU
Sibu airport is contructed to accomodate small and mid-range aircraft like the Boeing 737-500. The 2000 metres runway is capable to allow direct flights from West Malaysia using Boeing 737s. Since the opening of this airport, Malaysia Airlines has started its first direct flight to Kuala Lumpur using the Boeing aircraft.

ADVANCED FACILITIES
Sibu airport has new advanced facilities for its visitors. This is a success for Malaysia Airports Berhad in raising standards of airports in Malaysia. Sibu airport has a wide range of facilities such as restaurants with a variety of food, shops and a waiting hall. For businessman, there are office automation facillities and a complete business lounge.

WELL DESIGNED AIRPORT
This Sibu airport is two storeys high. The spacious airport was designed for passengers comfort. There are 10 check-in counters and a wide luggage sorting area. There is also a flight information board with a large display. A viewing galery is also available to give tourist a better view of the airport.

TRANSPORTATION FACILITIES AND CAR PARK
Sibu airport is located 24 kilometers from Sibu town. There are bus and taxi service with a reasonable fare. The 2 lane highway journey to Sibu town is very comfortable. A car parking area is provided opposite the terminal building for those who use their own transport.

FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
With this airport that is modern and comfortable, this airport is excepted to improve the economy and the tourism in Sibu and its nearby area.
