
Pasar Malam
The Pasar Malam (Night Market) is a unique feature of the
Malaysian culture. Sibu Pasar Malam is located at High Street, Market Road and Lembangan
Lane. Every night, hundreds of stalls are set up and they offer a wide variety of food and
goods at a reasonable price. It consist of Chinese and Malay food and drinks such as Pau,
Soya Bean drink, Panggang, curry puffs and etc. You can't miss this place if you're in
Sibu.
Sibu Civic Centre

It is situated about 3 KM away from Sibu town along the Tun Abang Haji Openg Road. The mini museum of the Civic Centre is also a popular venue for conference, exhibition, concert and community gathering. It is open from 3:00pm-8:00pm (Tuesday-Saturday), 9:00am-12:00pm and 2:00pm-8:00pm (Sunday). The museum is closed on Monday.
Bukit Aup Jubilee Park


Bukit Aup Jubilee Park is located less than 12 KM from Sibu town. The road to Bukit Aup Jubilee Park is tar sealed. The total undulating land for development is more than 200 acres. Currently 2 phases have been completed comprising an observation tower, suspension bridge, sky steps, a pavillion, an amphitheatre, a children's playground, a lagoon, a canteen and other buildings. Accommodation will be available in the 3rd phase. This is a special place for Sibu people to relax and keep away from the hectic town life. From the photo you'll notice the beautiful scenery and unique building structures. Sibu people used to come here for picnics and family outing. Barbeque stands are available for visitors to cook their delicious meal. It is a clean place. Visitors are advised to up keep the cleanliness of the park.
Native Market

The Lembangan Market with over 700 stalls is located along the Lembangan River in between Mission road and Channel Road. Many of the hawkers there are from the villages and longhouses. They sell everything and anything like flying fox, squirrel, snake, turtle, snail, bats, edible jungle ferns and fruits. It opens daily and is most popular during weekends and public holidays.
Sarawak Pottery

Sibu takes no exception in producing some fine quality pottery. The beautiful designs, which deplicts the traditional cultures of the natives, are fast becoming the fravourite souvinirs. There are 3 ceramic factories in Sibu. One at KM 7 and KM 12 Ulu Oya Road and the third one at Upper Lanang. Don't forget to get one for remembrance.
Seven storey Pagoda
The 7 storey Pagoda is one of the attraction
in Sibu with unique design. Claimed to be more beautiful than the same of its kind in
South East Asia and even Taiwan, the pagoda gives a panaromic view of Sibu town. It stands
adjacent to the Tua Pek Kong Temple.
ChopSticks Restaurant

Congratulation to Chopsticks Restaurant for being awarded by Sibu Municipal
Council the champion in cleanliness in Sibu for the 7th year (in 1997).
The proprietor, Mr. Wang Xing Jie said the success of his
restaurant is due to the co-operation of his workers working as a team to serve the
customers. Cleanliness has been part of their daily business. A good management team is
the essence for success. Therefore, Mr. Wang rewarded his workers by giving the
prize money to his workers for the past seven years.
The restaurant occupies one and half floor of one shophouse. They filter their water
before making ice cubes. Mr. Wang Xing Jie mentioned that he will do some renovation to
the restaurant and replace some of the equipment or furniture. Mr. Wang decided not to
participate in the next year cleanliness contest in order to give chance to other
restaurant proprietors.
The restaurant is next to HongKong Bank and it is visited daily by nearby office workers, ordinary people as well as rich and famous. Do you know that the Singers, "Chopsticks Sisters" visited Chopsticks Restaurant during their visits to Sibu?
BANDONG HAWKERS' CENTRE

Bandong shophouses, situated in Malay Kampong (village), were builded by SEDC about 7 years ago (in 1990) as venue for Malays to do their business. Chinese hawkers joined in at later stage to provide more varieties to the customers. It has about sixty hawker stores and can accommodate about 2,000 to 3,000 customers. During the day, not many visit the place as it is an open air hawker centre. From 6:00 p.m., local people will come in group gradually to pack the place. The centre starts cleaning up at 12:00 midnight. The centre provides Malay, Indian and Chinese food, like Satai, Mee Gorang, Barbeque Fish, Chicken and Sotong, Rojek, Lodi Chanai, Umai (fresh fish with venegar and species), Chinese fried noodles, chinese fried chicken, chinese steam fish and ......... etc. If you come to visit Sibu, ask your friend to bring you there to enjoy the delicious food. |
